Coach Boo is a person of faith. He is very thankful that the game of basketball has allowed him to travel the world and meet a ton of great people. Basketball has also allowed him to be a blessing to so many people. Boo thanks God for allowing him to play and coach a sport that he loves with a passion. It is truly a blessing to him to have so many kids look up to him for being such a positive role model. His purpose in life is to give back and continue to inspire the youth.
Ron Davis, also known as Boo, grew up in Chicago, IL where he was a standout, three-sport high school athlete in basketball, baseball and volleyball. He earned his varsity letter all four years in baseball (also honored with all-conference and all-division), and was a three-time letterman in basketball. Boo went from barely being known to becoming a household name for Marshall H.S. He climbed his way up in the rankings. Boo went from not being ranked his freshman year, to making the top 40’s list out of the top 100 basketball players in Illinois his senior year.
Kids love learning about Coach Boo’s years as a college and professional athlete. Boo played shooting guard at Chicago’s Marshall High School, where they were crown conference champions in 2001. Marshall was in the Red West Conference, the toughest high school conference throughout the country. He graduated and was offered an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Olney Community College, earning 2nd team all-conference honors and voted captain of the team in 2002-2003.
Following his success at JUCO, Boo was offered another full scholarship to play Division 1 Basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He “redshirted” his entire junior season. The following season, Boo jumped in enthusiastically to help the Panthers win the Horizon League and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Boo and the Panthers advanced to the Sweet 16, before they were defeated by the University of Illinois. The very next year, which was Boo's senior year, the Panthers were crown Champions of the Horizon League again. Once again earning another berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers advanced to the 2nd round, beating The University of Oklahoma, where Boo was awarded player of the game with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Before getting knocked out of the tournament by the champions that year, Florida Gators. Boo completed his collegiate career at UWM, earning the following honors: 2nd team All-Horizon League, Horizon League 1st team all-defense, 1st team all-tournament, and Horizon League Tournament MVP.
In 2006, Boo proudly completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and was offered a contract to play professional basketball in Israel, starting his outstanding career as a professional basketball player. Boo’s experience as a college basketball player and as a professional athlete gives him a strong insight on what it takes to experience success on and off the court. Boo is also the proud father of four children, giving him even more insight into motivating and working with children.
